This device connects to "Spool" web app through its wifi (created specifically by twine team). In this web app you can create rules in plain English language. These rules can trigger messages/twines.

So in nutshell, Spool web app reads sensors data through wifi from harware device - twine and then according to rules defined in its database by you sends you sms /tweet etc. to notify that particular condition is met/triggered.
